Description
Game Overview
Kabitis is an action-adventure game that follows the story of an evil robot named Dron, whose mission is to capture humans. One young man, Aike, manages to escape Dron's control. Observing this, Kabitis takes action and embarks on a mission to pursue Dron and free the captured humans. Aike decides to join Kabitis in this quest, creating a cooperative dynamic for players.
Gameplay and Features
The game supports up to two players and offers full gamepad compatibility. Players can experience approximately 30 stages, each featuring a mix of standard gameplay, bonus challenges, and additional arena phases. Certain arenas and features can be unlocked for the dedicated Battle Mode, expanding gameplay variety.
During the story mode, players can collect crystals and use them to purchase items from the in-game store. Points are earned through combat and completing objectives, allowing Kabitis and Aike to grow stronger over time. The store includes various items, including bees that serve specific functions and tools to manipulate time. Each level contains a timer set by Dron for the exit gates, requiring careful planning and speed.
Items and Hazards
Kabitis includes a diverse selection of items, such as magic boxes, which assist in progressing through the game. Players must navigate hazards like thorns, which can inflict damage or poison. Minor health recovery items, referred to as "juice," are available but require quick action to be effective.
Customizable Strategy
One of Kabitis’s core mechanics allows players to use store-bought tools to modify levels. For example, New Platforms can be purchased and placed to create custom paths, helping players overcome challenging obstacles or reach difficult goals. This system encourages strategic planning and experimentation throughout the stages.
Replayability and Challenge
The game emphasizes continuous challenge, offering new obstacles at every step. Players can approach each stage in multiple ways, using collected items, purchased tools, and cooperative play to enhance their experience. Battle Mode and unlockable arenas further increase replay value, providing additional content beyond the main story.
Summary
Kabitis combines cooperative gameplay, strategic item management, and challenging platforming across a series of 30 stages. Players control Kabitis and Aike, navigating hazards, collecting crystals, buying items, and customizing the environment to succeed. With unlockable features, Battle Mode, and tools for creative problem solving, Kabitis provides an engaging experience with layered challenges and opportunities for strategic play.
Our Verdict
Kabitis offers a decent experience for fans of old-school platformers, but it struggles to stand out. The game's premise—chasing down an evil robot and rescuing prisoners—is simple and familiar, with a story that lacks depth. The two-player co-op feature is a nice touch, adding some fun in multiplayer, but the gameplay quickly becomes repetitive. With around 30 stages and some extra features like battle arenas, it provides enough content, but it doesn’t offer anything truly groundbreaking.
Although there are cool mechanics like crystal collecting, buying items, and the ability to build your own path using platforms, the game feels like it’s missing that extra spark. The graphics are basic, and the controls can sometimes feel a bit clunky, which can make the experience frustrating. If you're a fan of classic platformers and are looking for something straightforward, Kabitis can be fun for a few hours. But for everyone else, it might be hard to recommend.
