Description
Following the dissolution of the criminal syndicate Almata, Calvard has returned to a state of relative tranquility. Citizens enjoy their lives without the looming threat of organized crime, but this fragile peace is soon shattered by a string of brutal murders. Each attack is linked to a mysterious crimson creature, setting in motion a series of events that draws multiple parties into action. Some groups operate within the boundaries of the law to uncover the truth, while others aim to exploit the chaos for their own gain. Amid the growing unrest, the spriggan Van Arkride encounters an unexpected visitor, prompting him to embark on a personal investigation into the unsettling incidents.
Story
The game is set in the year 1209 of the Septian Calendar. With Almata no longer posing a threat, peace has returned to the Republic of Calvard. This calm is disrupted when a CID special forces unit is ambushed and slaughtered by an unidentified attacker. While authorities scramble to contain the situation, criminal organizations see an opportunity to further their own agendas. Van Arkride, head of Arkride Solutions, begins his own investigation after a surprising visit. Players are asked to uncover the perpetrators behind the massacre and understand the motives driving these attacks. This storyline also intersects with Agnès Claudel’s ongoing quest for the eighth Genesis, drawing old and new characters into a narrative shaped by fate.
Gameplay System
The game enhances the battle system introduced in its predecessor, allowing seamless transitions between field exploration and command-based battles while adding two new mechanics: Cross Charge and EX Chains.
Cross Charge
During field battles, perfectly dodging an enemy attack triggers the Cross Charge icon. By pressing the designated button, players can swap in another party member who performs a charge attack simultaneously. The incoming member also receives temporary attack power enhancement, making strategic timing essential.
EX Chains
EX Chains activate under specific conditions in command battles. Executing a craft or standard attack on a stunned enemy can trigger this mechanic, enabling party members with SCLM activated to launch a synchronized attack affecting nearby foes and dealing massive damage.
Chapter Selection
Players experience the story through multiple chapters that can be played in any chosen order. Characters may temporarily split off to handle concurrent tasks in various locations across Calvard. Each chapter highlights different party members, offering unique perspectives and missions. Upon completing a chapter, the next one begins automatically, maintaining narrative continuity while providing freedom in story progression.
Unique Missions
Certain chapters include specialized missions that take advantage of the characters' distinct abilities. Examples include directly controlling the holo core AI Mare to hack into the orbal network or stealthily trailing suspects using Swin. These missions add variety and strategic depth to the gameplay experience.
Characters
Van Arkride
Van leads Arkride Solutions and is known for his love of sweets, saunas, and orbal cars. As a spriggan, he occasionally accepts morally ambiguous assignments but remains committed to helping others. Van has the capability to transform into an armored form called Grendel with the aid of Mare, the combat orbment's holo core. This ability allowed him to defeat Almata during the struggle for the Oct-Geneses. Following the group’s temporary disbandment, Van continues his investigative work independently.
Agnès Claudel
A first-year student at Aramis Academy and a member of the Student Council, Agnès possesses a polite demeanor and a determined spirit. She previously partnered with Van to recover eight prototype orbments known as the Oct-Geneses, seven of which she has successfully retrieved. Balancing her academic duties, festival preparation, and Arkride Solutions work, Agnès admires Van and harbors more personal feelings toward him while continuing her mission to recover the final Genesis.
Elaine Auclair
An A-rank bracer of the Calvard Bracer Guild, Elaine is celebrated for her skill and beauty, earning the nickname “Beauty’s Blade.” Though frequently offered opportunities in modeling and acting, she declines such offers to focus on her role in the Bracer Guild. Elaine shares a complicated history with Van, having experienced a brief romance in high school, and their reunion after seven years strengthens their bond amid current challenges. She is drawn into the investigation following the murder of the CID Gamma Squad and the appearance of a crimson creature.
World
The Republic of Calvard
Calvard occupies the central region of the Zemurian continent, currently led by President Roy Gramheart. The nation has historically welcomed immigrants and refugees, creating a diverse cultural landscape. A century ago, the people overthrew monarchal rule to establish a democratic republic. Despite ongoing border disputes with Erebonia, Calvard has benefited from post-war reparations, fueling rapid growth and surpassing Erebonia as a leading continental power. Technological progress has expanded motorsports and orbal cinema, reflecting the country’s recreational development.
Messeldam
Messeldam is a mid-sized northern city known for its historical role as a major trading port on the Northern Sea. While airship advancements have reduced its logistical importance, the city remains a key gateway to Remiferia. Its largely unchanged architecture attracts visitors, and the population's openness to new ideas has historically supported cultural events such as the Orbal Film Festival, held in Messeldam until 1208 before relocating to Tharbad.
