Description
Welcome to Purgatory Island, a forsaken prison for the undead and the dying. It’s a place where torment never ends, a hellish domain from which there is no escape. If you have found yourself reading this, you are already well aware that the boundaries between life and death are slowly fading away. With each passing moment, your breath grows weaker, and your heart beats slower, fading further into the abyss. The Far Watchers control this diseased island, and they’ve infected you with their deadly Animus—a machine that keeps your body from falling apart, but also serves as a deadly force that seeks to end your life completely. You are now part of their twisted experiment, one that tests both you and the weapons they’ve created.
On this island, cameras—both visible and hidden—track your every movement. The Far Watchers’ eerie presence lurks in the shadows, watching your every step, just beyond your sight. You’ve been given a second chance at life, but only to uncover the mysteries of your existence and to understand why you were brought here. Survival is your only option, but the questions surrounding your situation grow ever more disturbing. Why are you alive again? What is the true purpose of this nightmare? These answers—and your fate—are up to you to uncover.

Our Verdict
VRZ Torment (2016) brings an intriguing concept with its mix of survival horror and action, but it fails to deliver on execution. While the idea of exploring a cursed island filled with undead and bizarre machines sounds engaging, the gameplay quickly becomes repetitive and frustrating. The story, penned by Mark Rein-Hagen, has potential but is drowned in poor pacing and clunky mechanics. The game may appeal to fans of zombie shooters, but the lack of meaningful innovation makes it hard to recommend to anyone looking for a fresh experience.
While the game features a variety of weapons and multiple ways to approach objectives, the combat and exploration feel shallow. Even with support for popular VR devices, it doesn't offer a truly immersive or engaging experience. If you’re looking for a solid survival horror game or something with deeper gameplay, you might want to skip VRZ Torment. It’s more of a missed opportunity than a must-play title.
