Description
All Quiet Roads 4743 is a strategic traffic management simulation where players construct road networks connecting multiple neighborhoods. Congestion is visually indicated as roads turn amber and then red when traffic slows or halts. Players must expand infrastructure to maintain smooth traffic flow, incorporating cloverleaf intersections, ferries, bridges, and tunnels to ensure vehicles reach their destinations efficiently.
Gameplay Overview
The game starts in London with only a few neighborhoods available. Players determine the placement of roads to connect these neighborhoods. Vehicles periodically spawn in each neighborhood and travel to other neighborhoods based on their specific types. Vehicles remain stationary until a route is available. Over time, new neighborhoods automatically appear, requiring players to continuously expand the road network.
Each neighborhood attracts specific vehicle types, and vehicles spawned elsewhere will seek neighborhoods matching their destination type. Roads handle traffic autonomously, but excessive congestion slows vehicles, and roads turn red when completely blocked. To manage this, players can create multiple routes for vehicles to bypass traffic jams.
Road Upgrades and Structures
- Cloverleaf: Upgrades intersections to allow traffic to pass over other roads, reducing congestion.
- Bridge: Enables roads to cross water.
- Tunnel: Allows roads to pass through hills.
- Ferry: Connects remote shorelines without a bridge.
Vehicles complete a trip when reaching their destination, adding to the raw score. The All Quiet Roads score (AQR) updates only when no roads are red. Red roads generate noise from honking vehicles, while roads are considered "quiet" when all traffic flows freely.
Inventory and Progress
At the start of each city, players have a limited number of roads and possibly bridges or special items. Additional inventory is earned as the raw score increases. Freeway segments allow faster vehicle movement. If inventory runs out, players can remove roads after current vehicles complete their trips to reclaim items.
A progress bar tracks the raw score. Once filled, players select upgrades based on city needs. Subsequent choices are available only after filling the bar again. While raw score determines inventory growth, the ultimate goal is to increase the AQR, which reflects traffic efficiency without red roads.
Achievements and City Progression
Each city offers three achievements based on AQR:
- AQR 527: Minimum score for the Quiet Roads achievement and unlocking subsequent cities.
- AQR 1581: Mid-level achievement, City Flourishes.
- AQR 4743: Maximum achievement, allowing leaderboard placement.
Players can replay cities to improve their AQR score. The game ends if a neighborhood reaches maximum parking capacity, indicated by purple, and vehicles continue spawning beyond the limit. Tow trucks can be used to remove individual vehicles temporarily, reducing traffic without affecting scores.
Cities and Achievements
- London: "Domine Dirige Nos" achievement.
- New York: Maximum achievement "Excelsior!"
- Paris: "Fluctuat Nec Mergitur" achievement for AQR 4743.
- Rio de Janeiro: "Recte Rem Publicam Gerere" highest achievement.
- Seattle: "City of Flowers" leaderboard achievement.
- St Louis: "Gateway to the West" achievement for AQR 4743.
- Sydney: Final city achievement "I take but I surrender."
Unique Features
All Quiet Roads 4743 uniquely allows players to manage roads in real-time, with traffic visualizations similar to modern maps. Red roads are critical indicators of congestion, and uncontrolled traffic can result in jammed neighborhoods, ending the game. Strategic road placement, upgrades, and traffic management are essential to maintain quiet streets and achieve high scores.
