Description
World Tournament Structure
The 2018 edition of Football Nation VR Tournament offers a unique competitive structure inspired by the World Cup. Players can select from any of the 36 VR Nations and advance through multiple rounds until the final match determines the ultimate champion. Round One includes all 36 teams and lasts three weeks, from June 7 to June 28, 2018. At the end of this stage, only 16 teams remain, eliminating over half of the participants.
The second stage consists of knockout rounds for the top 16 teams, lasting one week from June 28 to July 5, 2018. Following that, the quarter-finals feature the top eight teams in matches held from July 5 to July 12, 2018. Semi-finals with the top four teams take place from July 12 to July 19, 2018, and the final match between the last two teams is scheduled for July 21, 2018.
Players still have the opportunity to join the competition before the knockout rounds begin and experience the intensity of scoring goals and competing in VR. The tournament emphasizes teamwork, strategy, and real-time virtual football action.
About Football Nation VR
Football Nation VR™ brings football into virtual reality with an immersive experience that captures the essence of professional matches. The 2018 tournament allows players to feel the stadium atmosphere, virtual grass underfoot, and crowd reactions. Participants can play solo against AI, compete in 8-player online lobbies, or invite friends for private matches. The game provides multiple pitch options, including the International League Stadium or casual Five-A-Side sessions for relaxed gameplay.
Football Nation VR delivers authentic football mechanics, simulating running, kicking, and tackling actions. The game includes global leaderboards, encouraging players to compete internationally for top positions. Regardless of the mode, players can experience the excitement and competitive spirit of football fully in VR.
Gameplay Modes
Play Football in VR
For the first time, players can engage in football matches in VR against AI opponents or online with friends. The first-person perspective allows complete control over running, dribbling, and kicking motions using the game's agile locomotion mechanics, without requiring extra controllers or trackers.
Offline Training Challenges
Players can improve their skills through a series of offline challenges. Training exercises focus on dribbling, kicking, striking, and target practice, providing a variety of scenarios to enhance performance before competitive matches.
World Tournament Mode
This mode mirrors a World Cup structure. Thirty-six teams enter, but only one emerges as the winner. Players select a country and compete in 16-player matches, with lobbies split between AI and human players. Wins earn three points for the country, and only the top-ranking teams advance. Each round eliminates half of the teams until the final match determines the champion. The mode follows professional football rules, including penalties.
Five-A-Side Matches
Players can participate in 5-A-Side games either solo against AI or in 4v4 online matches. These short matches last five minutes and provide a casual football experience without strict rules, replicating the feel of Sunday league football.
Teams
Starting July 2018, Football Nation VR introduced permanent teams. Players can create, join, and customize teams with friends, offering long-term gameplay beyond tournaments. This feature allows flexible team management and personalized football experiences, enhancing community engagement within the game.
Innovative VR Mechanics
Football Nation VR is the world’s first first-person football game in VR, where players control running, dribbling, and kicking motions directly with their hands. The agile locomotion system enables realistic movement, bringing football into VR without additional devices. This development builds on the growing popularity of running and sports games in virtual reality, offering an unprecedented immersive football experience.
