Cyberbots: Fullmetal Madness was originally released only in Japan and was rarely seen outside Japanese arcades. Now, this iconic title is finally making its debut in the United States. The game is set in the late 21st century, a time when humanity has colonized the vast expanses of space. The Earth Force, a military organization consisting of enormous, heavily-armed mechs, serves as the primary defense for both Earth and its colonies. These mechs are piloted by elite warriors who defend humanity’s interests against threats both on Earth and in the cosmos.
As a player, you will choose from a roster of six distinct pilots, each with their own motivations and storylines. The game offers a wide variety of twelve different mechs, each with unique attributes, strengths, and abilities. Your goal is to engage in thrilling 2D combat against other mechs, using a combination of strategy, skill, and precision. Over the course of the game, you will earn victories in battle and unlock opportunities to upgrade your mech with new parts, weapons, and enhancements, allowing for greater customization and power.
As you progress through the game, you will learn more about the secretive activities of the Earth Force. The organization is conducting dark and dangerous experiments that may alter the course of humanity's future. The choices you make as a pilot will shape the ultimate fate of the Earth and its colonies, adding an extra layer of depth to the gameplay experience. Will you fight for the survival of mankind, or will you uncover the sinister secrets lurking behind the Earth Force’s operations?
While the game has been ported from its original PlayStation® disc version to the PS3™ and PSP® systems, it should be noted that certain features from the original release may not be available in this version. For example, multiplayer modes, versus modes, and co-op gameplay are not supported in this release, as the game no longer supports PlayStation® peripherals such as controllers, memory cards, and multitaps. This version of the game, like all PS one® Classics, offers the same rich single-player experience, but with a few limitations due to the platform transfer.
To enjoy the game on your PSP® system, you will need to transfer it from your PS3™ system. Make sure you are signed into the PlayStation®Network account that originally purchased the game. You must also have at least 322 MB of free space on your Memory Stick Duo™. To transfer the game, connect your PSP® to your PS3™ via USB cable and enter USB Mode on your PSP®. Highlight the game on the PS3™ XMB™, press the Δ button, and select "Copy" to initiate the transfer.
If you are a PC Store customer, simply log into your PlayStation®Network account on your PS3™ and download the game from your “Download List” in the PlayStation®Store. The game will then be available for play on your PS3™ or PSP® system.
Cyberbots: Fullmetal Madness is a one-time purchase that grants you a license to download the game on up to two console systems and two portable systems associated with your purchasing account. By purchasing, you agree to the PlayStation®Network Terms of Service/User Agreement, including any item use restrictions.

Our Verdict
If you're a fan of classic 2D fighting games and enjoy giant mechs, then Cyberbots: Fullmetal Madness is definitely worth a try. Originally released in Japanese arcades, this PS One Classic brings all the mech combat action straight to your PS3™ and PSP® systems. The game offers a unique cast of characters and customizable mechs, along with a gripping story set in a futuristic world. However, keep in mind that the game’s text is entirely in Japanese, which may be a barrier for some players.
While the game delivers a solid 2D combat experience, it’s not without its drawbacks. Multiplayer features are unavailable, and some functions might not work as expected due to its conversion from the original PlayStation® disc. Still, if you can look past these limitations, Cyberbots: Fullmetal Madness is a fun, nostalgic pick for anyone looking to experience a lesser-known gem from the '90s. Overall, we recommend it to those who appreciate retro mecha games or want to try something different.
