Description
Splice is a puzzle game developed by Cipher Prime, an indie game studio. While it is no longer available for download from the Google Play Store, it can still be purchased on other platforms. The game focuses on a simple yet challenging puzzle mechanic, where players must rearrange disassembled cells to form new structures.
Gameplay
Splice does not feature a traditional storyline. Instead, its primary focus is on solving intricate puzzles by manipulating cells. The core gameplay revolves around using a limited number of moves, referred to as "splices," to create a required structure. Each puzzle challenges players to form a specific arrangement of cells, and the objective is to accomplish this task with as few splices as possible.
There are a total of 77 levels, each offering a distinct challenge. Throughout the game, players will encounter a variety of power-up cells, each with unique abilities that are crucial for progressing through the puzzles. For example, one type of cell can destroy both itself and its offspring, which is useful for clearing obstacles or accessing other cells. Another type of cell is compatible with every other cell on the level, allowing it to link them together in creative ways.
The game requires careful planning and strategic thinking, as players must consider the properties of the available cells and use them effectively. As players advance through the levels, they must continuously adapt to new obstacles and puzzle mechanics, ensuring that no two levels feel the same.
Soundtrack
The music for Splice was composed by the co-creator of Cipher Prime. The soundtrack is a key part of the game's atmosphere, enhancing the player's immersion into its puzzle-solving world. Eight tracks were made available to the public, with seven of these featured in the main levels and one additional track included in the game's epilogue. The soundtrack complements the gameplay perfectly, creating a relaxing yet engaging background that allows players to focus on solving the puzzles.
Our Verdict
Splice is a clever and challenging puzzle game that really makes you think. Its simple mechanics hide a surprising depth, and each level feels satisfying to solve. The limited moves force you to plan carefully, which keeps the game engaging from start to finish.
The visuals are clean and calming, and the soundtrack fits the mood perfectly, adding a quiet charm to the experience. With 77 levels and a variety of special cells, the game offers plenty of variety to keep players hooked.
We recommend Splice for anyone who enjoys brain-teasing puzzles and thoughtful gameplay. It’s easy to pick up but hard to master, making it a worthwhile challenge for puzzle fans.
