Description
The narrative of Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late explores the emergence and struggles of the In-births within the mysterious phenomenon known as the Hollow Night. Since ancient times, the organization called the “Night Blade” has served as vigilant protectors of this enigmatic event. During a brief respite in an unremarkable town, Linne, the Princess of the Night Blade, encounters a young boy named Hyde. Hyde possesses the legendary sword of destiny that Linne has been searching for across countless journeys.
Within the Hollow Night, entities called Voids thrive on the unique energy present in this dimension. Simultaneously, individuals known as In-births harness this same energy for their personal purposes. As Linne investigates the recent surge in both Void and In-birth activity, she discovers a sinister scheme orchestrated by someone identifying as “Paradox.” This figure is revealed to be Hilda, the head of the clandestine group “Amnesia.” Determined to halt Paradox’s malevolent objectives, Linne ventures into the Night. Unaware to her, Hyde follows closely behind, driven by an urgent need to understand her identity and purpose. Thus, the intertwined fates of the Hollow Night and the In-births commence.
The In-births and the Abyss
The Hollow Night is a realm where the dark entities known as Voids reside. Legends state that humans whose souls are consumed by Voids undergo an artificial death, emerging afterward as In-births. These newly awakened beings gain access to a supernatural energy called EXS, enabling them to perform extraordinary feats beyond normal human capacity. The Hollow Night manifests during full moons, often accompanied by the ominous Crimson Fog. At the center of this occurrence lies the Abyss, the source of EXS and the focal point for power-seekers. In this domain, In-births gather driven by ambition, pride, glory, and personal motives, engaging in fierce battles to assert their dominance.
Stylish Action Fighting
Players can select from a roster of distinctive characters, each with unique abilities and fighting styles. Navigating the perilous Hollow Night, combatants strive to overcome all obstacles and opponents in pursuit of victory. The game emphasizes precise control, encouraging players to execute intricate combos and strategic exchanges rather than merely pressing buttons. The action reflects a dynamic, anime-inspired fighting style, delivering both thrilling encounters and rewarding gameplay for those who master its mechanics.
Online Gameplay
The game features a robust online mode, allowing players to engage with others through “NETWORK MODE.” Competitors can participate in both “RANK MATCH” and “PLAYER MATCH” to test their skills in competitive environments. A ranking leaderboard is available for players aspiring to achieve high standings and secure a place in the hall of fame. Online matches provide opportunities for both casual and serious players to measure their abilities against others and refine their combat techniques within the competitive community.
Experience
Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late combines a narrative-driven fantasy environment with a highly responsive fighting system. Each character’s abilities and interactions are tightly integrated with the lore of the Hollow Night, delivering a cohesive experience for players. The game’s focus on strategic combat, character mastery, and the interplay of EXS powers ensures depth and challenge. Whether exploring the storyline, engaging in local battles, or competing online, the game provides a comprehensive fighting experience rooted in the rich mythology of the Hollow Night and the In-births.
Our Verdict
Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late (2014) is a solid pick for fans of anime-style fighting games. The fast-paced, action-packed gameplay stands out, offering a deep combat system with unique characters and stylish combos. If you enjoy a good challenge and complex mechanics, this game will keep you engaged with its smooth controls and competitive online modes.
However, if you're looking for a straightforward, casual experience, this game might not be the best choice. Its steep learning curve and niche appeal to anime-fighting enthusiasts may turn off more casual players. The story and lore, while interesting, are secondary to the combat itself, so expect a focus on fighting over narrative depth.
Recommendation: If you're into anime fighters and want something with deep mechanics, Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late is worth your time. But if you're new to the genre or want something more accessible, you might want to pass on this one.
