Description
The survival action game Nether: Resurrected has been restored to its original state from the Summer of 2014, reflecting the version when it first exited Early Access under development by Phosphor Games Studio. Players now have access to single-player mode for the first time, providing a challenging experience in a monster-infested urban apocalypse. The game no longer includes micro-transactions, allowing all items to be purchased using in-game currency. Multiplayer has been restructured to operate on player-hosted servers, removing the previous backend and eliminating the need for logins beyond Steam credentials. This update allows players to fully control their game experience and maintain ownership of their servers and progress.
Features Currently in Development
- Custom server settings: Players can adjust server parameters, including the number of participants, Nether spawn rates, and weapon availability.
- Modding tools to allow community-generated content.
- Bug fixes, including improvements to Nether character functionality, which previously contained several issues.
Game Overview
Nether is a fast-paced survival game that challenges players to make quick, life-preserving decisions in a hostile post-apocalyptic city. Players encounter deadly creatures known as "Nethers" as well as rival human survivors, making tactical awareness, stealth, and cooperation essential for survival. To navigate the environment, players must scavenge, craft, trade, and loot for food, weapons, and other resources necessary to endure the city’s dangerous landscape. Gameplay options include solo survival or team-based strategies with tribes to accomplish challenging world objectives, ultimately requiring players to decide whether to prey on others or rely on careful defense.
Key Features
Exploration
The game’s setting is a detailed vision of a post-apocalyptic Chicago, featuring over 150 city blocks filled with low- and high-rise buildings available for exploration. Beyond the city lies the Wastelands, a desolate and deteriorating terrain gradually sinking into the earth. The urban environment is rich with opportunities for scavenging and strategic navigation.
Survival, Crafting, and Combat
Players begin armed only with a kitchen knife and must scavenge for weapons, food, and water to survive. The Nether, mutated creatures seeking human prey, pose a constant threat. Players can hunt Nether, trade their body parts with a mysterious Cult at city markets, and gradually improve skills through experience gained from surviving each day. Other survivors also represent a danger, as they may attack to loot valuable items, creating a dynamic PvP environment alongside PvE challenges.
Tribes and Territory Control
Joining a tribe offers protection and the opportunity to capture territory. Tribes can compete for dominance by securing strategic locations and controlling resources. Players can infiltrate rival groups, perform espionage, or attack using specialized abilities such as wingsuits. Tribal activities establish social hierarchies and reputation systems that have tangible consequences within the game.
Missions and Objectives
Players can complete individual or group missions for rewards, experience, and reputation. Missions include supply runs between markets, collaborative defense against Nether swarms led by the Reaper boss, and maintaining Safezones by repairing anti-Nether devices. Group coordination is crucial for successfully completing these objectives and surviving environmental hazards.
Character Customization
The game allows extensive customization of player characters, offering both male and female options. Cosmetic items, outfits, and player emotes provide individuality, including survivalist, soldier, biker, or casual styles. Players can freely define the appearance and personality of their characters to enhance their in-game identity.
