Description
MyDream is a sandbox video game that merges structured, grid-based construction with dynamic, fully-deformable voxel terrain. Players are invited to construct, modify, and explore diverse landscapes while engaging in quests and uncovering new areas across extensive and visually varied worlds. The game encourages experimentation in building and terraforming, providing an interactive experience where creativity and exploration are central elements.
Gameplay Features
The core gameplay of MyDream revolves around two main systems: the grid-based building mechanics and the organic voxel terrain deformation. Grid-based building allows for precise placement of structures, while voxel deformation offers a more fluid and flexible way to shape the environment. Players can combine these systems to create complex constructions or reshape the land to fit specific needs. This dual approach to world manipulation ensures a high level of player freedom and engagement.
Exploration is another key component of MyDream. The game features various environments that players can traverse, each offering unique challenges, resources, and opportunities for discovery. The sandbox nature of the game means there are no fixed paths, and players can chart their own course through forests, mountains, and open plains, making each session unique.
Development and Technology
MyDream was developed by MyDream Interactive Inc. using the Unity engine, incorporating their proprietary VoxelForm technology. This engine allowed for high performance while maintaining exceptional quality in terrain deformation. The development team focused on creating a world where player actions could meaningfully interact with the environment, making the manipulation of terrain and structures a seamless part of gameplay.
As the game evolved, some features were deprecated and became increasingly difficult to maintain. When the development team shifted focus towards virtual reality (VR), performance and stability requirements began to outweigh the open-world and deformation aspects of the game. This shift eventually led to the discontinuation of MyDream's development in 2016, with the team transitioning to other projects while leaving the game available for players to enjoy in its existing state.
Current Availability
Although online multiplayer functionality is no longer supported, MyDream remains accessible for offline play. Users can continue to experience the sandbox features, including building, terraforming, and exploring the game world. Elements from a later VR-focused project, known as the vr_towerdefense branch, contain some features that evolved into the Siege Hammer concept. However, due to outdated VR SDK requirements, these features are non-functional in modern VR setups and cannot be played without VR hardware because of pitch limitations.
Community and Support
MyDream was developed with a focus on encouraging creativity, courage, and collaboration among its player base. The developers expressed gratitude to fans, supporters, and backers who contributed to the game's development and provided feedback throughout its lifecycle. Despite the game's shift away from active development, the existing release allows players to explore the core mechanics and enjoy the sandbox world created by the team.
Summary
MyDream is a sandbox experience that blends structured building with fully-deformable voxel terrain. It offers extensive opportunities for exploration, construction, and environmental manipulation within visually diverse worlds. Built on Unity with the VoxelForm engine, the game delivers high-performance terrain deformation and interactive world mechanics. While the original online features and VR expansions are no longer functional, offline play preserves the creative and exploratory aspects of the game, allowing players to continue engaging with the rich sandbox environment crafted by MyDream Interactive Inc.
