Serious Sam Classics: Revolution (2014)

Serious Sam Classics: Revolution represents a comprehensive unification of the original Serious Sam Classic: The First Encounter and Serious Sam Classic: The Second Encounter titles developed by Croteam. The project is currently being advanced by Alligator Pit, an independent team of Serious Sam enthusiasts, working in collaboration with Croteam. This edition combines all levels from both classic games while integrating additional content created by Alligator Pit. It is powered by an upgraded Serious Engine 1, which introduces enhanced graphics through advanced shader support, complete 64-bit compatibility, full Steamworks integration, and numerous bug fixes designed to deliver an improved gameplay experience.

The game is a standalone product, available at no extra cost to Steam users who already own both original Serious Sam Classic games. The Alligator Pit development team includes members such as Angelo, Rakanishu, Bromvlieg, Solais, and other dedicated fans from around the globe.

Gameplay Overview

Serious Sam is a fast-paced, old-school arcade shooter focused on relentless action. Players assume the role of Sam "Serious" Stone and navigate through visually striking environments inspired by Ancient Egypt, the Mayan Civilization, the Persian Empire, and Medieval Europe. The objective is to confront the overwhelming forces of the Mental's army, which relentlessly aim to annihilate humanity.

Steamworks Integration

The game is fully integrated with Steam, featuring dedicated servers, a game browser, achievements, leaderboards, and additional Steam services for a seamless multiplayer experience.

Frantic Arcade-Style Action

Players engage in high-intensity battles against Mental's extensive forces, including classic enemies such as the Beheaded Kamikaze, Sirian Werebull, and Kleer Skeleton, alongside new adversaries reintroduced from the game’s timeline. Confront three of Mental’s generals in critical battles to progress through the story.

Varied Environments and Hidden Secrets

Gameplay spans four major locations: Ancient Egypt, the Mayan Civilization, the Persian Empire, and Medieval Europe. Each environment is filled with over 100 hidden secrets, encouraging exploration and discovery throughout combat zones.

Weapons and Power-Ups

The arsenal includes a wide range of weapons, from classic options like the Double Shotgun, Minigun, Sniper Rifle, and Cannon, to additional favorites such as the Plasmagun and Minelayer from the Warped mod. Players can utilize power-ups to enhance their combat capabilities and dominate the battlefield.

Cooperative Multiplayer

Up to 42 players can participate simultaneously in cooperative gameplay, enabling the full campaign to be experienced with friends or opponents.

Survival Mode

The new Survival mode challenges players to endure increasingly difficult waves of enemies, testing both strategy and reflexes.

Versus Multiplayer

Players can engage in classic Deathmatch and Scorematch battles or try new Revolution-exclusive modes such as Team Deathmatch, Capture-the-Flag, and Control Zone. Split-screen gameplay supports up to four local players for both cooperative and competitive matches.

Engine Upgrades

The upgraded engine includes hundreds of bug fixes, full 64-bit compatibility, and advanced shader support for OpenGL, allowing users to create and apply custom shaders. The Serious Editor and Serious Modeler provide a complete suite for designing levels, mods, textures, and additional content.

Future Updates

During the Early Access phase, Alligator Pit plans to introduce a series of updates including:
