Description
The united orc tribes, having failed in their previous attempt to conquer Thorwal due to the intervention of courageous adventurers, have reorganized and shifted their focus to more vulnerable regions. As a result, the town of Lowangen has fallen under orcish control, and large sections of the Svellt Valley have been devastated by fire. Amid this turmoil, an elf ambassador calls upon the party to journey to the city of Kvirasim. Their mission is to unite the elves and dwarves against the encroaching orc threat by recovering a powerful artifact known as the Salamander Stone. However, the task is complicated by hidden opposition: when the party investigates an abandoned dwarven mine that might hold critical answers, they discover that not everyone in the realm supports cooperation between the two races.
Gameplay Overview
Star Trail is a faithful remake of the classic sequel in the Realms of Arkania series, preserving its original depth and complexity. As a hardcore role-playing game, it emphasizes strategic thinking, careful planning, and detailed character management. Players navigate a richly constructed world from a first-person perspective, exploring meticulously designed cities, villages, and dungeons. The game’s isometric, turn-based combat system challenges players to employ tactical maneuvers, balancing offensive and defensive actions to overcome formidable foes.
Character Development
Players create and customize their own characters, choosing from a variety of races and character classes, each with unique strengths and weaknesses. Throughout the game, adventurers can acquire and master dozens of talents, including both combat and magical abilities. The party management system requires careful attention to individual skills, equipment, and strategies to ensure survival and success during encounters. Interaction with countless non-player characters in richly detailed environments provides additional depth and story progression, offering both quests and critical information for the overarching mission.
Exploration and Quests
The realm is expansive, allowing players to plan and execute extensive journeys across diverse landscapes. Cities and dungeons are handcrafted, offering unique layouts, hidden secrets, and complex challenges. Completing quests often requires a combination of tactical combat, clever problem-solving, and strategic resource management. The pursuit of the Salamander Stone, the key artifact for uniting elves and dwarves, drives the narrative forward, compelling players to make choices that impact alliances, political relations, and the outcome of conflicts in the realm.
Combat System
The game features a turn-based tactical combat system that demands careful planning and precise execution. Each encounter requires players to consider positioning, terrain advantages, and the optimal use of each character’s abilities. Success in battle relies on understanding the interplay between different talents and spells, as well as coordinating the actions of all party members to outmaneuver and defeat enemies. This complex system ensures that each fight is both challenging and rewarding, reinforcing the game’s hardcore RPG identity.

Star Trail is built on the TDE ruleset, functioning as a hybrid between versions 3 and 4.
